Kansas City home builders are more than glad to bid 2008 good-bye and hope for a better year this year. It shouldn’t be too hard to have a better year. Just 134 single-family home permits were issued in December, a dreadful end to a dreadful construction year in the city, the worst since 1982. Kansas City issues only 3,242 single-family permits in 2008, nearly half the 6,385 permits issued in 2007. In 1982, the city issued 25-Hundred 2,553 permits.

The contrast is stark when compared to the boom years. Earlier in the decade, more than 10,000 homes were being built each year, with the peak year coming in 2004 when 12,720 homes were built.
