Gary Pinkel The University of Missouri and Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel have agreed to terms on a new seven-year contract that will keep Pinkel through the 2015 season.  The new deal begins Jan. 1, 2009 and runs through Dec. 31, 2015.  Pinkel’s previous contract was set to have expired Dec. 31, 2012.

Under terms of the new agreement, Pinkel, will receive a guarantee of $2.3 million per year, including a base salary of $350,000.  The new guarantee represents an increase of $450,000 from the previous yearly guarantee of $1.85 million, while the base is $70,000 more than the previous figure.

Pinkel, in his eighth year at Mizzou, has guided the Tiger program to two Big 12 North titles and Pinkel is 58-39 at MU (.598) and stands 131-76-3 (.631) overall in 18 seasons as a head coach.

Mizzou has won 30 of its last 39 games under Pinkel’s direction (.769), and its 21 combined wins in 2007 and 2008 is tied for most in the nation in that stretch (tied with Boise State, BYU, Ohio State, OU, and Utah).

In a statement, MU Director of Athletics Mike Alden said, "We are very pleased to have a man with the integrity and character of Gary Pinkel representing our University, and our athletic department, alumni and fans.  It is gratifying to know that our University leadership shares the same excitement about Gary and what he’s done.  I believe this is a comprehensive statement that we have made about our commitment to winning and doing things the right way.  Gary and his staff have done things that we haven’t seen here in over 40 years, and this gives us an opportunity to recognize those accomplishments on and off the field."

Earlier this week, Pinkel commented on staying at Missouri and wanting to continue to build on the Tigers’ success
