It was a battle of young quarterbacks still learning on the job.  Buffalo’s Trent Edwards took a big step forward.  The Chiefs’ Tyler Thigpen took a step backwards as the Chiefs gave up the most points in a game in franchise history losing 54-31.

Thigpen was picked off twice and the Chiefs fumbled four times and lost three of those.  Those turnovers led to 20 points.  Edwards picked apart the KC secondary going 24 of 32 for 273 yards and two touchdowns, plus he ran for two touchdowns.

After the game head coach Herm Edwards said the turnovers and penalties gave the Bills good field position too many times.

The Chiefs actually led this game 14-10 early in the second quarter.  Thigpen completed four passes on the opening drive of the game including a 36 yard touchdown pass to Jamaal Charles.

The Bills answered with a touchdown and field goal on their next two possessions, but Thigpen put the Chiefs on top on a two yard pass to Tony Gonzalez which was set up by Larry Johnson’s 63 yard run out of the shotgun.

From there things went sour.  The Chiefs gave the Bills a short field at their own 28 when Charles fumbled.  The Bills kicked a field goal to pull to within 14-13.  Then two plays later, Thigpen was picked off and Buffalo’s Leodis McKelvin who ran it back the other way to put the Bills up 20-14.

After the teams traded field goals, Thigpen was picked off again looking for former Missouri Tiger Will Franklin deep.  McKelvin came up with his second pick and the Bills scored again completing a 23 point 2 nd quarter to lead 30-17.

McKelvin then returned the 2 nd half kickoff to the Chiefs 48 and the Bills were back in the endzone on their first drive over the 3 rd quarter to go up by 20 at that point.

The Chiefs were unable to force any turnovers defensively and were outscored again in the 3 rd quarter 17-7 on their way
