A week of testimony comes to a close in the trial of Lori Drew, who is accused of conspiracy and accessing computers without authorization in the cyber-bullying case involving the suicide of 13-year-old Megan Meier of Dardenne Prairie, near St. Louis.
16-year-old Sarah Drew took the witness stand on Friday, testifying her mother had created the fictitious boy named Josh on a MySpace account to learn whether Megan Meier was spreading rumors about Sarah Drew. But Sarah Drew told the court that her mother had instructed a business colleague to shut down the MySpace account long before the 13-year-old took her own life.
Megan Meier hanged herself in October of 2006 after receiving a message that the world would be better off if she were dead. The teenager had been treated for depression. Lori Drew has pleaded not guilty in the case. A judge will rule, on Monday, on a defense request to dismiss the case.
