A mother’s testimony saved a teen-age kidnapper from a long prison term. Instead, 18-year-old Alisa Betts of Atchison, Kansas will be placed on five years probation for her role in abducting Amanda Culley of Clinton, taking her to a Blue Springs hotel and planning to cut her unborn baby from the womb. Betts was helping another woman and at the last minute decided against the plot and called police who arrested her and Lauran Gash.

At a Friday hearing in Jackson County, Culley told the judge she would have lost her child and be left to die if Betts hadn’t changed her mind.
