Missouri Southern baseball coach Bryce Darnell has announced the addition of Jared White and Bo Bergen to his list of 2009 recruits joining the team for the 2010 baseball season.
White, a 6-1 right handed pitcher, is a transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and is a native of Miami, Oklahoma where he prepped at Wyandotte High School. White was a four year starter for the Bears and coach Troy Gray at both pitcher and catcher. White also started for three years at quarterback for the Bears and three years at forward on the basketball team.
Last season at NEO, White went 5-2 with 43 strikeouts in 46 innings, leading the team in wins. At the plate, White hit .333 with three doubles.
At Wyandotte, White was a four-time all-conference and all-area selection, helping his team to a district championship his freshman, sophomore and senior seasons. He is the all-time strikeout leader in the state of Oklahoma with 626 in his four-year career. White holds the WHS season and career records for strikeouts, as well as earned run average, and was featured in 2007 in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd.
Also a standout at the plate, he holds the school record for career batting average. White’s career numbers at Wyandotte include a 42-10 win loss record on the mound where he struck out 626 in 332.2 innings. At the plate, White had a career .515 batting average with 172 hits, 96 runs scored, five triples and 20 home runs, while slugging .874. White is the son of Robb and Teresa White and will be an education major at Southern.
Bergen is a 6’0 left handed pitcher out of MacDonald County High School and is a native of Anderson, Mo. He has been a four-year starter for coach Lee Smith and was also an outfielder and first basemen. Bergen played football and basketball, as well at MCHS.
Bergen was a 2007 second-team all-conference and honorable mention all-area selection and a first-team all-conference and second team all-area selection in 2008. Bergen was named first team all-district in 2008 when he had 60 strikeouts in 46 innings with a 1.37 ERA.
Bergen is on pace to break the school record for career strikeouts this season. He is the son of Dennis and Charlene Bergen, both of whom are graduates of Missouri Southern. His uncle, Neal Smith, played basketball at Southern in 1990-92. He is undecided on his future major at Southern.
Darnell expects three more signings next week.
