As early as Monday morning, a report was surfacing that the Chiefs were not only ready to talk contract with retired quarterback Daunte Culpepper, they were ready to talk long term.  Those plans appear to be on hold.

After having time to watch third string quarterback Tyler Thigpen on tape following the Chiefs 28-24 loss to the Jets, head coach Herm Edwards was pretty impressed with the way he played.

Thigpen said he would be better prepared for his second NFL start and he certainly looked good.  I was very critical of his play and didn’t think he had what it took to be an NFL quarterback, but he looked sharp on Sunday.

Thigpen was 25 of 36 for 280 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers.  There is still a possibility that Culpepper could be added, but he won’t even be brought in for a face to face interview.

Backing up Thigpen is fourth stringer Ingle Martin and Quinn Gray who was signed last week from Jacksonville.
