A controversial statement reignites the debate over whether Senator Barack Obama has the experience necessary to be Commander-In-Chief.
Barack Obama’s running-mate, Joe Biden, warned a Democratic fund-raiser in Seattle to expect an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of Obama if he wins the presidency.
"Mark my words, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America," Biden is quoted as stating just prior to making his controversial statement about an international crisis.
Democratic Congressman Ike Skelton, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, agrees that Obama would be tested, stating that a president is tested every day that he has to make difficult decisions every day.
"Just what will come up," Skelton tells the Missourinet, "We don’t know."
Skelton supports Obama and is a good friend of Biden’s. He says Obama is up to whatever challenge arises. He says the Middle East will continue to be a challenge, that Russia will be a challenge and that even the Far East and China will prove challenging as the relationship between the United States and China has been strained.
Republican Senator Bond, who supports John McCain, seizes on the Biden statement to expose what he perceives as an Obama weakness.
"It’s far more likely that somebody who has no record of experience and not much of a record of being strong on the United States role (in the world) will be tested by one or several of the many, many countries of the world which wish us ill," Bond says, "So that is a concern."
Bond is vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
