According to sources close to the Kansas City Chiefs have said the team would trade all-pro tight end Tony Gonzalez if the price was right.  NFL.com is reporting one team interested in a possible deal is the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants.

The Associated Press is saying those three sources are saying Gonzalez could be traded by Tuesday’s deadline.

Gonzalez, who holds the NFL tight end record for receptions, touchdown catches and yards receiving, is active in civic and charitable affairs and enjoys great popularity in Kansas City. He has always said he would like to end his career with the Chiefs, who drafted him in the first round out of California in 1997.

Now is the time you throw sentimental value right out the window.  The Chiefs are 1-4, they are not going anywhere this year, and they need to continue to build for the future and Gonzalez will be well past his prime before the Chiefs are good again.  Plus, Gonzalez has been a stand up guy, great for the fans, team, and community, he deserves a shot at a Super Bowl ring.  I say absolutely, if the Chiefs can get young players, draft picks, or a combination of both, they need to do it.

Here’s more on the story from the Giants standpoint from NFL.com
