The auto industry is ailing as a result of a bad economy and high fuel prices. But this could be a benefit to a product made at the Ford plant at Claycomo, near Kansas City.
The 2009 Ford F-150 truck, which is made at Claycomo, has a fuel efficiency rating that is eight percent better than the 2008 model. Philip Calhoun, Director of Manufacturing Quality for the Americas for the Ford Motor Company, says the company has acted on the feedback it has received from its customers who want a truck but also want better mileage.
Calhoun believes the improved fuel efficiency will help keep the F-150 one of Ford’s most in demand vehicles. And that is good for the prospects of job security at the Claycomo plant.
