Adam Vondrak, led Northwest Missouri State with seven tackles on a defense and Missouri Western kicker Dustin Strickler booted two field goals as each earn player of the week honors in the MIAA.
Dustin Strickler, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound senior from Bellevue, Neb., remained perfect on both field goals and extra points for the season in Western’s 46-40 loss to No. 7 Pittsburg State Saturday night. He was 2-for-2 on field goals, connecting from 39 and 42 yards, and is now perfect in six tries for 2008. Strickler also booted four extra points to move to 15-of-15 for the year and extend his current string of 46 just six away from equaling his current school record.
Vondrak was Northwest’s leading tackler in a 49-0 win against Truman in a battle for the Old Hickory Stick Saturday in Kirksville. It was the Bearcats’ first shutout since a 27-0 win against Midwestern State during the 2006 NCAA playoffs.
Vondrak had a collegiate-best seven tackles, four solo, in the win. He has 21 stops in four games this season – the second-highest total on the team.
Northwest held the MIAA’s leading passer, Matt Ticich, to 59 yards passing and the Bulldogs to 143 total yards in the game. Truman finished with seven first downs, two of which were gained by Northwest penalty. The team ran 18 plays in the second half and netted six yards.
