For the first time since 2003, the Royals have a shot at finishing better than the bottom of the AL Central Division inching closer to Detroit following their 6-2 win on Monday.

David DeJesus continues his hot September where he’s hitting .395, by going 4 for 4.  DeJesus drove in a run and scored two more to help lead the Royals’ offense.  Mike Aviles, the number two hitter behind DeJesus went 2 for 5.  His season average is .319.

The Royals were up 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Gil Meche (13-11) got touched for two runs on hits by Magglio Ordonez and Jeff Larish.  The Royals opened up the game on Detroit’s bullpen.

With the win, Kansas City trails Detroit by just one game with two left in head to head matchups.  I understand, playing for fourth place is not like vying for the Wild Card, but for manager Trey Hillman and his club, getting out of the cellar could be a step in the right direction.
