Charges have been upgraded in the death of a Southwest Missouri security guard. The Greene County prosecutor filed a murder charge against a man for kicking a hospital security guard in the head, leading to his death.

Investigators said Jeffery Bolden was being treated for a dog bite at Cox North, in Springfield, while he was in police custody last month. Police had handcuffed Bolden to a hospital bed when he kicked security guard, Monte Ruby, in the back of the head.

Ruby fell over unconscious and died after four days in intensive care. An autopsy showed Ruby suffered severe damage to his brain stem and spine from the kick.
