Cliff Lee earned his 22nd win of the season last night, while receiving a helping portion of runs from his team’s offense to lead the Indians in a 12-5 rout of the Royals.
Lee (22-2) pitched into the ninth inning, but his teammates made sure his victory was never in doubt, putting up four runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and two in the seventh.
Gil Meche struck out seven in five innings for Kansas City, but the Indians’ fifth-inning outburst did him in, and ultimately lowered his record to 11-11 in 2008.
