The Royals pulled off the three sweep of the Oakland A’s by winning a doubleheader on Thursday with a 5-4 win in 10 innings and a 9-6 win in the night cap. 

Joey Gathright who came in as a defensive replacement late in the first game, singled home the game winner in the bottom of the 10 th inning.  Brian Bannister got a four run boost early by the Royals’ offense, but gave up three runs in the fifth, which all came unearned after an error by Mike Aviles. 

Oakland tied the game in the sixth on a solo home run by Daric Barton.  With the score tied in the 10 th , Esteban German reached on a throwing error and moved into scoring position on a sac bunt from David DeJesus setting up Gathright’s game winner.

The Royals got started again in the second with a four run outburst to back Kyle Davies’ five innings.  Jose Guillen went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Billy Butler picked up his seventh RBI of the series.  The Royals had a 9-1 lead before the A’s scored three off Robinson Tejada in the 7 th and added two more in the 9 th .
