The long journey to lifting Missouri’s campaign contribution limits ends today as Senate Bill 1038 – a bill approved by the General Assembly and signed by Governor Matt Blunt – goes into effect. In essence, individuals and political committees are now allowed to contribute as they wish to candidates or other political committees.

Missouri Ethics Commission Interim Executive Director Stacey Heislen says the new law covers anyone running for any statewide office or for State Senate or State Representative seats.

Heislen adds there is a reporting requirement that goes with unlimited contributing – all contributions over 5-thousand dollars must be reported to the Commission, electronically, within 48 hours.
