Royals starting pitcher Brian Bannister left in the second inning after giving up 10 runs to the Yankees who go on to win 15-6.  Bannister falls to 7-12 on the year and his ERA shot up to 5.96.

The Yankees hit four home runs off Bannister and the knock out blow came in the bottom of the second when Jason Giambi hit a grand slam with no outs to put New York up 10-0.  Alex Rodriquez, Xavier Nady also went deep against Bannister in the first inning.

This all erased a three run first inning by the Royals highlighted by Billy Butler’s two run double.  I found an interesting stat on the Royals’ website .  This was Bannister’s second game at Yankee Stadium. Last June 7, he lasted just 3 1/3 innings and gave up five runs. So his career ERA at Yankee Stadium is 31.40.
