Things were looking up as the Royals sprinted out to an early 2 – 0 lead on a Jose Guillen single in the top of the first, but that was all the fire power they could manage as the Royals drop their third straight by a score of 2-9.

Royals’ pitchers were once again plagued by the long ball allowing four home runs in a row during the bottom of the sixth. Kyle Davies picked up his fourth loss of the year giving up nine hits and three runs in five innings of work. Royals bull pen pitchers Joel Peralta, Robinson Tejeda and Josh Newman didn’t give Davies any help allowing four hits and six runs in their combined three innings of work.

White Sox starter Lance Broadway shut the Royals down after their first inning run allowing five hits in his 5.1 innings on the mound.

Miguel Olivo began serving his suspension Thursday for his part in the Royals’ August 3 scuffle with the White Sox. Olivo’s suspension has been reduced to four games, meaning he will be back on Tuesday when the Royals are in Cleveland for a three game series with the Indians. No roster moves will be made in Olivo’s absence which means Mitch Maier will back up John Buck, who will be behind the plate for the weekend series against the Yankees.

The Royals travel to New York this weekend in an attempt to stop their three game skid. So far this year the Royals have posted a 3-3 record against the Bronx Bombers but only one win has come in Yankee Stadium.
