It is time for Missourians to step up to the challenge, the weight loss challenge. Shape Up Missouri (SUM) is a state-wide wellness competition sponsored by the Show-Me STATE GAMES and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Health that encourages Missourians to develop healthy lifestyles.

Teams of 2 to 10 people can help each other through the competition. Two sessions, fall and spring, are available. The fall session starts October 1 and runs until December 3, while the spring session starts January 19 and runs until April 13.

During each session participants will attend reporting sessions where they will learn about weight loss and physical activity.

Children K-12 can also join in the fun to battle childhood obesity. SUM has a similar program for schools to enroll in, with top schools earning awards for their physical education department.

Signing up cost $15 per person per session, or $25 per person when you sign up for both sessions at the same time. AARP members can sign up at a discounted rate of $7.50 per session. The sign up cost includes a biweekly newsletter with nutrition, exercises and recipes. Participants can register until the first reporting period of each session. All proceeds go to the Show-Me State Games and the Governors Council on Physical Fitness and Health to allow support for the school competition.
