Braden Looper gave up just three hits in seven innings, but unfortunately two of those hits were home runs and he suffers the tough loss, 2-1 against Philadelphia last night at a sold out Busch Stadium.

Greg Dobbs hit a solo home run in the third inning and St. Louis native and Missouri State grad Ryan Howard went deep in the fourth to give Philly a two run advantage.   Phillies starter Joe Blanton would be equally as tough allowing just four hits in his seven innings over work, but he allowed a home run to Ryan Ludwick, his 26 th of the year to cut the lead.

The Cardinals were unable to get to the bullpen including their closer Brad Lidge who is now 27 for 27 in save opportunities this season.  He got Albert Pujols to ground out on the first pitch and Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel to strike out around a Troy Glaus walk to end the game.

St. Louis is one game behind Milwaukee for the wild card lead.
