Despite higher voter registration, the Secretary of State’s office is estimating a lower voter turn out than in the 2004 primary.
If all of the expected voters turn out tomorrow, the Secretary of State’s office predicts more than a million votes will be cast. While that sounds like a lot that estimate is less than the turn out from the 2004 primary.
"It looks like in the 2004 election, which would have been the last primary before a general election, there was a turn out of 35 percent," said spokesman Laura Egerdal. "So this prediction is a little bit lower and again that’s based on local election authorities estimates of what’s going to happen in their county."
The reason voter turnout expectations are down is because there might no be as much interest or excitement for this primary, she said.
Even if you aren’t excited about the race Egerdal said you should vote. Polls open tomorrow at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
