The Cardinals let one get away spoiling a good start from Todd Wellemeyer as Pittsburgh rallies for a 12-11 win in 10 innings on Saturday night.  The final shot came off the bat of Jason Michaels who took Chris Perez deep for the win.

Cards right-hander Chris Perez relieved Kyle McClellan in the bottom of the 10th after a single by pinch-hitter Raul Chavez, and gave up the two-run shot to Michaels. It was Michaels’ fourth home run of the season.

The Cards had a 10-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 8 th .  Everyone was hitting for St. Louis.  Ryan Ludwick was 3 for 5 with 4 RBI, Albert Pujols had three hits.  Yadier Molina was 4 for 6 and Troy Glaus was 4 for 4 including a solo home run in the 10 th that put the Cards back up 11-10.

However, the bullpen has failed many times year and that was the case again.  The Pirates scored two in the 8 th off a Jason Bay home run, his second of the game.  Then they rallied for four in the bottom of the 9 th including a three run homer by Nate McClouth off of Jason Insringhausen.

The loss pushed the Cardinals 5.5 games behind Chicago.
