Eat right, even on the 4th!

That’s the message the State Health Department wants to get across even as Missourians get set to celebrate Independence Day.

Independence Day is a holiday that traditionally has us hauling out the grill, lighting the coals and burning plenty of meat. State Registered Dietician Pat Kramer doesn’t want you to put away the grill, just be careful about what you eat this weekend.

Kramer says she doesn’t want to concentrate on what not to eat. She says if you eat right, there won’t be room left for junk food. Kramer says her rule of thumb is to have half the plate be fruits and vegetables and she says all forms count, and you can count any of the greens or reds you top your hamburger with.
