Last night’s 7-2 win for the Royals was their sixth win in a row, and fourth in a row over the Cardinals this season.  Alex Gordon drove in four runs off Cardinals’ starter Joel Pineiro and Gil Meche won his third straight decision as the Royals clinch at least a season series win over their I-70 rivals with two games to play.

Unlike the series in St. Louis, when the Royals needed home runs in late inning rallies, KC jumped on Pineiro (2-4) early.  In the second inning, John Buck doubled with one out and went to third on a Ross Gload single before scoring on a Joey Gathright single to make it 1-0.

David DeJesus singled to load the bases, prompting a visit from Dave Duncan.  Pineiro then struck out Mike Aviles, but Alex Gordon lined a 2-2 pitch clearing the bases to make it 4-0.

Gordon would later a solo home run in the fifth, his 10th, to make it a 5-0 game which was more than enough for Meche (6-8) who pitched seven innings allowing just one run on six hits and a walk while striking out two.

Troy Glaus went 3 for 4 for the Cardinals, homering off Meche to start the seventh and drove in another run in the 8th off of Ron Mahay, but the Royals added two more runs in the bottom of that inning when David DeJesus greeted Ron Villone who replace Pineiro, with a double that scored two runs.
