The St. Louis Cardinals bounce back from a 20-2 drubbing at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies Friday night to edge the Phils 3-2 in a Saturday afternoon pitchers’ duel at Busch Stadium.

Kyle Lohse (8-2) pitched 8 innings for the win, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, striking out 3. Ryan Franklin pitched a perfect inning out of the bullpen to earn his 9th save. Adam Eaton (2-4), who picked up 2 of Philadelphia’s 4 hits, gave up 3 earned runs on 9 hits to take the loss.

The Cardinals struck first in their first at bat. Lead off batter Skip Schumaker singled up the middle, then Adam Kennedy smacked his first home run of the season – a 363 shot to right field – to give St. Louis a 2-0 lead.

St. Louis made it 3-0 in the 3rd inning as Ryan Ludwick singled to drive in Schumaker from third base.

Philadelphia came back with a pair of runs in the 4th inning. St. Louis native Ryan Howard singled and scored on Pat Burrell’s 18th round tripper of the season – a 397-foot blast to left centerfield. That was all the scoring there would be as Lohse and Franklin shut down the Phillies the rest of the way to preserve the St. Louis victory.

Prior to the game the Cardinals announced pitcher Mark Worrell and outfielder Joe Mather to AAA Memphis and added a pair of pitchers to the roster with the recall of righthander Anthony Reyes from Memphis and the activation of Jason Isringhausen from the 15-day disabled list.

The Redbirds (41-29) and the Phils (41-29) wrap up their weekend series Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium. Mitchell Boggs (1-0) takes the mound for St. Louis against Philadelphia’s Brett Myers (3-8).
