Officials with the Environmental Protection Agency will gather in St. Louis Thursday to discuss proposals to reduce lead air pollution. They will meet near the only operating lead smelter in the nation, the Doe Run smelter located in Jefferson County.

The EPA is proposing a new air pollution standard for lead, anywhere from 80 percent to 93 percent tougher than current law. The hearing Thursday will be held at the Omni Majestic Hotel in St. Louis.
