Scholarships amounting to a half million dollars are being offered by a private Catholic school in the St. Louis area, hoping to attract more students in its second year of operation.

Barat Academy of Dardenne Prairie opened last year with 52 girls and 30 boys. It had hoped to open with 75 girls and 75 boys. The scholarship fund was established with an anonymous gift which provided free tuition for students in the school’s first year.

School president Debby Watson says the scholarships will be offered to parents who don’t believe they can afford private education. Tuition to the school is $11,000 a year.
