Pregnant? Worried about what to name to new offspring? The Social Security Administration has a list you might want to consider of the hot baby names for Missouri.
Some people are named for family members or friends or others. Sometimes that leads to less-traditional combinations. For example, Joyce Hall was a man, the founder of Hallmark Cards, He was named for a family minister whose last name was Joyce.
Or maybe you want to be trendy so your child’s name will reflect what’s popular at the time of birth.
If you fall into this latter category, here are the top hot names for Missouri babies in 2007.
For boys, the most popular name by a good margin was Jacob. 536 babies born in Missouri last year were Jacobs. More than 400 babies were named Ethan, Logan, or Andrew.
Some interesting quirks show up on the list. Ranking 8th and 9th are Michael and Jackson. Biblical names are in the top sixty. Noah, in fact, is fifth. James and Joseph are 11th and 12th. Joshua, Mathew, and John are 16th, 18th, and 19th, Mark doesn’t make the list, but Luke is in the top sixty–at 41st.
There’s no Henry, Willie or a Sam—a comment that children of the 60s might understand.
For girls, more than 400 Emmas, Madisons and Avas were recorded last year by Social Security. More than 300 girls were named Addison, Olivia, Sophia, or Emily–or Isabella or Hannah.
Here are some names that didn’t make the top 60. Joe. Ed. Phillip. Mary. Janet. Nancy, Barbara.
Relics of a bygone era, perhaps.
