The Royals swept Detroit with an 8-4 win.  Jose Guillen, hit his fourth home run of the year and drove in three runs.  The Royals jumped on Kenny Rogers scoring seven runs in four innings.  Gil Meche, struck out six over seven innings.  He gave up three runs.  13 hits for the Royals…coming out of their slump.   

Joey Gathright walked to start the first inning, then Esteban German laid a perfect bunt down the third-base line for a single. With runners on first and second, Billy Butler smacked a double. Miguel Olivo doubled to score Butler.

The offense struck again in the second and fourth. Tony Pena drove in Ross Gload for one run, and Jose Guillen walked with the bases loaded to score Gathright for the other one in the second. Guillen hit his fourth home run of the year in the fourth to make it six runs, and Mark Teahen’s bloop single drove in Olivo for number seven. They all came off Detroit starter Kenny Rogers, who lasted just four innings.

Gil Meche, allowed just one run each in the second, fifth and seventh innings. He exited after the seventh and picked up his third win of the season. Reliever Joel Peralta gave up another run in the eighth.

Kansas City finished its season-long 10-game homestand with a 5-5 record and will take a four-game winning streak into its 11-game road trip that starts Friday against the Florida Marlins.
