Jose Guillen drove in two runs and then set up the winning run, both times with a two-out double, in the Royals’ 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium. Joakim Soria ran his scoreless streak to 15 1/3 innings after picking up his ninth save.
Zach Grienke got a no-decision, but pitched well again after a shaky first two innings, where he only allowed two runs. The first coming in the first on a double by Carlos Guillen, and then a home run by Matthew Joyce in the second. After that, Grienke held the Tigers to just four hits over the next four innings and left after six with the score tied.
Jose Guillen doubled with two outs in the third driving in two runs to even the game up, then came through big in the 8 th off reliever Francisco Cruceta who replaced Tiger start Nate Robertson who pitched well himself for seven innings. Guillen doubled with two outs and was lifted for pinch runner Esteban German who scored two batters later on a Mark Teahen single.
Ramon Ramirez, Leo Nunez (3-0) and Joakim Soria combined for three scoreless innings allowing just two walks by Ramirez to close out the Tigers.
