Former Mizzou Tiger Max Scherzer, 11 th overall pick in 2006, made his first major league start for Arizona against Philadelphia, coming after retiring 13 straight hitters in relief last week.

Scherzer took the loss going four innings, allowing five runs, two earned on seven hits while walking two and striking out five.

He was pretty hard as the Phillies timed his 96 mph fastball that was missing its spot.  In fact 45 year Jamie Moyer, the Phils starter pitcher doubled off of Scherzer.
