Bond endorses Hulshof for Governor

Congressman Kenny Hulshof (R-MO) gets a boost in his bid to capture the Republican gubernatorial nomination. During a speech to the party faithful at the Republican State Convention in Branson Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) has endorsed Hulshof.

Hulshof says he is honored to have the endorsement of Senator Bond and will work hard to be worthy of that endorsement. Hulshof adds there can be a benefit among those who contribute money to campaigns and he hopes to attract some of that money.

State Treasurer Sarah Steelman (R-MO), Hulshof’s opponent, says she is not at all surprised by Bond’s endorsement of his fellow Member of Congress. Steelman says she doubts many Missourians will be swayed by someone suggesting how they should vote.

Most "contested" delegates to GOP convention receive stamp of approval

Heading into Saturday’s credential decision-making process – the process that decides which of the 374 "contested" delegates and alternates would be seated – it looked, to some, as though the vast majority might be excluded. But in the end only 53 of the total found themselves on the outside looking in.

Many of the 374 who had been challenged over such things as questions of loyalty to the party were being targeted because of their support for Presidential Candidate Ron Paul. But party officials had insisted the questions involved the fact that some of those being challenged had actually belonged to other parties, such as the Libertarian Party. This was the case for 10 of those denied credentials.

The business of the day continued with some minor disagreements from Paul supporters over procedural issues, but the floor fight that had been feared by GOP officials never materialized.

Royals Lose Twelfth in a Row

The Royals losing streak reached twelve games with last night’s 5-4 loss to Cleveland.

Grady Sizemore practically carried Cleveland to the win, smashing two homers while ending the game with a great catch in centerfield.

Brett Tomko took the loss, giving up Casey Blake’s two-run homer in the sixth that proved to be the game-winner.  The appearance was just the second in relief for Tomko this season.

Afterwards, Royals manager Trey Hillman called the streak "miserable."

Starting Pitching Carries Cards to Victory

Todd Wellemeyer continues his career year for the Cardinals.

Wellemeyer (6-1) pitched seven strong innings of ball against the Pirates last night, limiting the Buccos to one run on six hits while striking out four in the Redbirds 5-4 win.

Prospect Joe Mather made his major league debut for the Cardinals, and it is one he will not soon forget.  The outfielder singled and made a diving catch to rob Adam LaRoche of a run-scoring extra-base hit in the second inning.  The highlight kept the game knotted at zero, but the catch is not the only thing he will remember.  The home crowd gave him a standing ovation when he came to the plate in the first inning.

Crow Leads Mizzou Past Mississippi

Aaron Crow (13-0) once again lived up to his All-American status and pitched the second-seeded Tiger baseball team to their first win of NCAA Regional play down in Coral Gables, Florida.

The 7-0 shutout victory over the third-seeded Mississippi Rebels was highlighted by Crow’s complete game and fourth shutout of the season.  The right-hander, who is expected to be among the first ten or so picks in next week’s MLB Entry Draft, struck out ten and allowed just three hits.  He has not lost a game this season.

Centerfielder Ryan Lollis was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while catcher Trevor Coleman smacked a three-run homer in the seventh inning to put the game virtually out of reach.  Jacob Priday and Aaron Senne each contributed a pair of RBI.
