As we move beyond the April 15th income tax filing deadline some taxpayers who are expecting refunds and who have not received those checks are wondering how long they’re going to have to wait. Michael Devine, Internal Revenue Service Media Relations Specialist for Missouri & Kansas, says it could take as much as 28 days from the filing date to get refunds to taxpayers.

But there is a way taxpayers expecting money can go online to find out where the money might be. Devine says tracing the status of the refund is easily done by going to the IRS website and clicking on “Where’s My Refund?” Those using the online service should have a Social Security Number, filing status, and the dollar amount of the refund expected. Those without access to the Internet can call the IRS Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954.
