The Royals had a chance to win their game with the A’s last night, but an eight-run 8th inning by Oakland put the game out of reach, as KC dropped a 13-2 decision.

The offense mustered just four hits on the night, but starter Brian Bannister had his first sub-par outing of the year, lasting just five innings while giving up five runs on nine hits.

The righty performed adequately until the sixth, when he gave up four straight hits to start the inning.  Ron Mahay relieved Bannister, but the A’s still put four runs on the board in the frame.

The real damage would not come until the eighth.  Oakland sent 11 men to the plate in the inning, and walked away with eight runs.  That doomed any dream of a KC comeback.

The two teams square off again this afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:05.
