Jon Garland of the Angels picked up his 17 th win of his career against the Royals, the most he’s had against any team as the Angels beat the Royals 5-3.  Brett Tomko went seven innings, but gave up a bases clearing double in the 3 rd and two more doubles in the 5 th that lead to two more runs.

The Royals had chances to score.

The Royals got within a run at 3-2 in the fourth when Garland walked Billy Butler and Jose Guillen drove him in with a double, but was stranded at second.

Garland was lifted in the seventh and the Royals left the bases loaded. In the 9th, they tried to rally against Angels’ closer Francisco Rodriguez. Gordon and Buck each singled and Alberto Callaspo, ripped a single to bring in a run. It was the first run that Rodriguez had allowed the Royals in his career.  Then F-Rod got the next two hitters to end the threat.

Royals notes:  David DeJesus left the game early after hurting his big left toe during batting practice.  He ran into the wall shagging a fly ball.

The Royals will meet up with former teammates Emil Brown and longtime fan favorite Mike Sweeney in Oakland for a three game weekend series.
