4-19 aronpotter.jpg Aron Potter, head softball coach at Missouri Southern for the past three years, has announced her resignation effective at the end of the 2008 season.

Potter was named the sixth head coach in Southern history in June of 2005. She came to Southern after serving as the head coach at Coffeyville Community College and compiled a 38-83 record in two plus seasons at MSSU.

The 2007 Lions finished second in the MIAA in pitching with a 2.25 team ERA and the Lions either set or tied two single-season records, including sacrifice hits in a game, and doubles in a game, as well as the second most home runs in a game and the second most sacrifice hits in a season.

In 2006, Potter’s first season with the Lions, she led a team that featured five freshman starters to a 17-23 mark and the program’s 16th appearance in 17 seasons in the MIAA post season tournament.

"Missouri Southern Softball has become a part of my life and will always mean a great deal to me," Potter said. "I will miss the players that I have worked with over the last three seasons, along with the great faculty, support staff and coaches in our department. But it is time for a change in my life. I want to thank Sallie Beard, Pat Lipira and MSSU for the opportunity to be a part of the Lion family."

"We would like to wish Aron the very best of luck," said Sallie Beard, Director of Athletics at Southern. "She has given her heart and soul to Missouri Southern Softball over the last three years."

A nationwide search for a new coach will begin immediately.
