Gil Meche, the first pitcher of the Royals’ new "Big three" picked up his first win of the season as the Royals got to the Angels 3-2 in game one of their series.  The real story once again is the bullpen.

After the game, Gil Meche said he needed this game. After losing two of his first three starts, Meche pitched like he did last year with the Royals, tossing six innings and giving up two runs.

The Royals got on the board early against Angels starter Jared Weaver as the top of the order created havoc.  Three hits a piece for leadoff hitter Joey Gathright and Mark Teahen, plus two more hits for Mark Grudzielanek who is hitting .347.  Gathright also swiped two more bases, giving him seven on the season.

The bullpen came up big again.  Four relievers combined for three shutout innings.  Ramon Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning, Jimmy Gobble, 1/3,  Leo Nunez pitched the 8th, and Joakim Soria the 9th for his 5th save.

All four pitchers, yet to give up an earned run this season.  The Royals just 1/2 game behind Chicago in the AL Central
