Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) is claiming "absolute privilege" in his defense against a lawsuit filed by an attorney Blunt fired.

Former Blunt aide Scott Eckersley has filed suit against Blunt and several key members of the administration, claiming he was fired for disagreeing on how the administration handled e-mails. Eckersley adds he was defamed in the news coverage that followed.

Court documents filed on Blunt’s behalf contend that Blunt, as the state’s chief executive, has immunity from such lawsuits, because of the privilege state law gives the Governor.
