Missouri’s largest electric utility wants to raise its rates. AmerenUE is asking the Missouri Public Service Commission for a 12.1 percent rate increase.
Steve Kidwell, Ameren’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, says the rate hike would amount to less than $9 a month for the average household – or less than 30 cents per day. Kidwell says the increase would provide Ameren with $251-million annually in additional revenue and would allow the company to continue systemwide reliability improvements for customers and cover increases in costs for fuel, transportation, and materials.
Kidwell expects public hearings to be held in late summer or early fall with a rate increase, should it be granted, going into effect in March of 2009. Prior to a 2 percent increase in rates in 2007, Ameren had not increased its rates for two decades.
