3-3 Edwardsflip2.jpg Carl Edwards pulled away from Dale Earnhardt Jr. on two restarts in the final laps to win the Sprint Cup UAW-400 in Las Vegas.  With Edwards’s two wins, he’s now at the top of the Cup Standings with 491 points.

When Edwards met with Missourinet News Director Bob Priddy at the Capitol in Jefferson City, following his 19th place finish at Daytona, he told Priddy that he felt his car was the strongest in pre-season testing at California and Las Vegas and he was excited to see how well they would do.  There’s no doubt his car has been the best.  On those two restarts at the end, Edwards pulled away from Junior.  Before the two cautions, Edwards overtook Matt Kenseth with 30 laps to go and built up a 4 1/2 second lead before the caution flag came out.

Edwards was penalized once for having a tire roll out onto pit road, and almost had a second penalty called against him when his front right tire rolled away late in the race on another pit stop, but NASCAR ruled a camera man got in the crew’s way from securing that tire.  That allowed Edwards to come off pit road, still in third place as opposed to the back of the line.  Listen to Carl Edwards’ post-race comments by clicking on the link.
