Tigers Coach Ehren Earlywine Two years ago, Ehren Earlywine had an opportunity to become the head coach for the University of Missouri Softball team and he jumped at it.  Earlywine grew up in Jefferson City, played his college ball at Missouri State and started his coaching career under former Major League outfielder and Mizzou Tiger Phil Bradley at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.

After bouncing around the country, coaching baseball and softball, Earlywine has returned home to mid-Missouri and has turned the Missouri Tigers softball team around in just one season.

Because I have a daughter who is seven years old, and loves to play basketball and softball, I wanted to highlight not only the Missouri Tiger softball team, but give fans of softball some insight on the game.

I hope you enjoy my conversation with coach Earlywine.  He talks about his young team (eight freshmen on the roster) in his second season with the Tigers…the fundamental differences between baseball and softball…What’s harder to hit, a baseball or softball?  Plus what is up with "slap" hitters?
