Tuesday marks the first day of filing for candidates wanting to be on the ballot for the August 5th primary elections. Anyone wishing to run for any of the statewide offices – Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, and Attorney General – as well as for State Senator, State Representative, or one of Missouri’s nine Congressional seats – must file the papers with the Secretary of State’s Office in Jefferson City.
Ryan Hobart with the Secretary of State’s Office says candidates have a month to file, until 5 pm on March 25th. For the most part, candidates must file in person, but there are exceptions for individuals who are physically disabled or for those who are serving in the U.S. military and are unable to appear in person.
In order to file, candidates must have a paid receipt from their political party for the filing fee, a form of identification, and a copy of an affidavit filed with the Department of Revenue affirming that the candidate is not currently aware of any delinquency in state tax filings.
