Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) has taken advantage of the Presidents Day Congressional break to undergo surgery on his left shoulder. The procedure, known as Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty, was performed at Bethesda Naval Hospital in suburban Maryland. The surgery was successful and Bond expects to be back at work next week.

This stems from an accident Bond had last May in which his morning walk was cut short by a driver who bumped into the Senator. At the time, it was thought Bond had suffered only a few bumps and bruises, but it turns out the injury to his shoulder was more serious than originally thought.

Bond jokes he will be unavailable for pitching relief for the Cardinals this season as a result of his surgery.
