Mississippi Governor and former Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour says he’s flattered that his name is being mentioned as a possible vice presidential running mate, but he says he does not expect that happen.

Barbour, who was in Springfield for the Missouri Republican Party’s Lincoln Days weekend, told the Missourinet his state is pretty solidly in the Republican column, and he doesn’t think a Mississippian would bring anything to the ticket.

As for whether Republicans could close ranks around likely nominee Senator John McCain, Barbour says disagreements will be put aside and the party faithful will back the nominee. Barbour says the idea of John McCain taking on Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama is very unifying for Republicans.
