An unsettled political atmosphere could have an impact on this legislative session. House Speaker Rod Jetton (R-Marble Hill) had considered running in the Republican primary for governor. With his decision to stay out of the race, Jetton now can concentrate on this legislative session and keeping the House in the hands of Republicans.

Jetton has once again become a Speaker in his last year not running for another office. Jetton has established a political consulting business, which he has run in addition to his official duties as Speaker. He says consulting with other politicians, not running for office himself, is his future for now. Jetton says he looks for candidates who share his conservative values, but who will keep an open mind.

Jetton says he and the top House Democrat, Paul LeVota (D-Independence), are dedicated to keeping the highly-charged political atmosphere out of the House Chamber.
