A day ago, former North Carolina Senator John Edwards campaigned in Jefferson City, talking about his Super Tuesday strategy for Missouri and the other states.  Today, Edwards got out of the race for the White House.  In the primaries and caucuses held so far, Edwards failed to gain a lot of traction and is far behind Democratic frontrunners Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Barack Obama (D-IL).

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO), an Obama supporter, commented today on the decision to Edwards to leave.  “I think that John Edwards was in the race for all the right reasons,” says McCaskill,  “And I really have so much affection for John Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, and their very valiant and courageous run for the presidency.”

McCaskill hopes Edwards’ supporters in Missouri will shift their support to Obama.  She says of the remaining candidates Obama is the right choice for changing things in Washington.
