Less than a week after announcing her plans to run for re-election as State Treasurer Sarah Steelman (R-MO) is changing course to shoot for a higher position. Steelman has announced that she is running for Governor .

It had been thought that Steelman might challenge Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, but those thoughts were laid to rest on Monday when Steelman announced she would seek a second term in the Treasurer’s Office. Missouri’s political landscape changed several hours later, however, with Blunt’s surprise announcement that he would not run for a second term.

Steelman, who served as a State Senator from Rolla before being elected Treasurer, made the announcement of a run for the Governor’s Office Saturday morning in Springfield.
