The Republican lightning rod is gone but the Democratic candidate for Governor says it does not make all that much difference.

Jay Nixon has spent three years attacking the political actions of Matt Blunt. But now his long-time target has gone away. Nixon is using some of the same rhetoric that Blunt used four years ago, and as recently as the State of the State speech a few days ago, when Blunt referred to bad public policy that was in place four years ago. Now Nixon speaks of bad decisions and wrong priorities since. And he says he doesn’t need Matt Blunt to be his target. He says he can run his same campaign against any Republican who replaces Blunt.

He says all of the Republicans talking about replacing Blunt have opportunities for the lat three years to disagree with Blunt’s policies. But he says they have "not been famous" for doing that.

Nixon says his message will remain the same–that Republicans have cut health care, sold the student higher education loan authority, and are using a smaller percentage of the state budget on education than was being used under the last Democrat Governor. He says the issues won’t change even if the faces do.
