The President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is threatening Kansas City with a boycott if the mayor does not remove a woman from the City Park Board. Mayor Mark Funkhouser says Frances Semler is doing a good job and he’s not going to ask her to quit.
SCLC President Charles Steele Junior says the city could feel economic sanctions if she’s not removed. Semler is a member of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, which is opposed to illegal immigration. Steele says Semler’s appointment is part of a pattern of racial insensitivity.
The organization is pulling its convention this year out of Kansas City.
