A settlement to compensate the state over the December, 2005, collapse of the Taum Sauk Reservoir is now a done deal.
A judge in Reynolds County has approved a settlement in which Ameren agrees to pay $180 Million in cash and property. The settlement, reached in November, was signed by Reynolds County Circuit Judge William Seay.
The deal brought to an end a lawsuit from Attorney General Jay Nixon (D-MO)and settles all other state demands for compensation. Ameren has agreed that the dam collapsed because of faulty equipment the company had delayed repairing.
A lawsuit filed by the Missouri Parks Association, seeking to stop the reconstruction of the reservoir, is still unresolved.
